Centennial is proposing to extend mining operations into the eastern section of its existing Mining Lease while also seeking to renew its current planning consent. Using underground mining techniques it is proposed Airly continue to extract up to 1.8 million tonnes annually using the currently approved operations, facilities and infrastructure.
If approval is granted by the Department of Planning and Environment, Airly will optimise the recovery of coal while concurrently minimising any potential environmental impacts and, in turn, support employment of a future workforce of up to 155 (135 employees and 20 contractors) while also potentilaly directly injecting approximately $551 million into the local, state, regional and national economies for the 25 year life of the Project.
It is anticipated the Department of Planning and Environment's assessment process will be finalised during 2015.
