Main Content

The Inglenook Project is an exploration area located near Ilford, in the Western Coalfields of NSW, between Lithgow and Mudgee.

Centennial holds three exploration licences in the Western Coalfields, collectively known as Inglenook.

The exploration project area is adjacent to the western rail line, enabling direct access to the Port Kembla coal terminal, with the opportunity to utilise existing infrastructure at either Airly or Charbon.

Inglenook has an estimated total coal resource of approximately 256 million tonnes. An exploration drilling programme is currently underway to ascertain the extent, quality and viability of the coal resource. Six drill holes have been completed out of a total 28 drill sites.

In conjunction with the current exploration drilling programme, environmental and mining studies will be undertaken to determine the feasibility of a future mine.

Planning Design and Approvals

In late 2008, the (now) NSW Department of Trade and Investment invited companies to submit an expression of interest for a number of coal exploration areas in NSW.

Centennial lodged an expression of interest over the areas known as Ilford, Cameron Road and Melrose. These areas adjoin two existing exploration titles, which were granted some years earlier. These existing titles are Exploration Licence A414 held by Centennial Coal (Charbon Coal Pty Ltd) and Assessment Lease AL12 held by Xstrata Coal.

In March 2010, NSW Trade and Investment issued Centennial with three Exploration Licences: Ilford (EL 7431), Cameron Road (EL 7432) and Melrose (EL 7442). These exploration licences are valid for five years.

The following document(s) relate to the project’s approvals.
