A New Decade and New CEO

“Centennial Coal (Centennial) today announced that its CEO and Managing Director, Mick Cairney, has agreed with the Board of Centennial to step down as CEO and Managing Director effective from 17th January 2020. During Mick’s 31 year career with Centennial he managed four of Centennial’s mines, headed up Health, Safety, Environment and Community across the Group and was Executive GM Operations before being appointed Managing Director and CEO in 2017.

Centennial Director and Banpu Chairman (Centennial is a wholly owned subsidiary of Banpu Public Company Limited), Chanin Vongkusolkit, thanked Mick for his enormous contribution to the Company over 31 years.

The baton has been passed to Centennial’s current Deputy CEO Peter Parry. Peter has over 30 years experience in the Australian mining industry as a qualified accountant. He has worked for American and Japanese multinational companies and also Australian and Thailand stock exchange listed companies in the oil and gas industry and since 1989 in the coal and power industry.

In Peter’s most recent role he oversaw the finance, marketing and logistics, legal, risk and compliance functions across the Centennial group. His role prior in 2015 - 2016 was the Chief Financial Officer of Banpu Public Company Limited, based in Bangkok, and listed on the Thailand stock exchange.

Prior to Peter’s move to Bangkok he held various finance related roles at Centennial, where he oversaw the Company’s growth from a market capitalisation of A$25m in 1996 to A$2.5bn, when it was acquired by Banpu in 2010.

Peter thanked Mick for his years of dedication, passion and leadership to Centennial and said he is looking forward to continuing to build on Centennial’s strengths to meet the challenges of the changing coal and energy markets.
